For many years I've been collecting ephemera and odd objects that have accumulated in my home in various piles and sometimes an actual vignette. I began assembling these usually aesthetically connected items into collages, which has evolved into illuminated boxes. I derive a great deal of satisfaction in connecting the disparate into harmony, uniting two entirely different things into something that suddenly has a natural logic.
Lately I've returned to my "roots" and have resurrected some old designs that proved popular at JP Open Studios. A trip to Brooklyn Restoration (see Resources page) provided some great distressed wood to play with. I'm still mesmerized by the layers of paint, color combinations and the history of a broken door from 1880, and hope its new function honors that!
