For many years I've been collecting ephemera and odd objects that have accumulated in my home in various piles and sometimes an actual vignette. I began assembling these usually aesthetically connected items into collages, which has evolved into illuminated boxes. I derive a great deal of satisfaction in connecting the disparate into harmony, uniting two entirely different things into something that suddenly has a natural logic.
I have a broad history in retail with an emphasis on Visual Merchandising and Display. Working at Urban Outfitters was a sort of creative bootcamp that spawned some of my appreciation for certain aesthetics. Throughout the 90's I participated in Juried Craft shows with my enterprise "Lallygaggin" which emphasized home furnishings made from architectural cast offs. That business eventually morphed into a retail shop in Boston called "Shelf Life." And now by day I work as Retail Services Manager for a major hospital.
